Winter Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians:
As Mother Nature ushers in the winter season with a lovely blanket of white snow covering the ground, the students are becoming excited with thoughts of Thanksgiving Celebrations right around the corner.
The first three months of school were very busy in the health room. State mandated school screenings such as hearings, school physicals and school dental exams, at Bellefonte Elementary School, were completed. School physicals were also completed at Pleasant Gap School and dental screenings at Pleasant Gap Elementary School will take place in January or February. Yearly height, weight, vision and BMI screenings were completed in grades one through five at both Bellefonte Elementary School and Pleasant Gap Elementary School. Kindergarten will have their yearly screenings done as we enter the new year.
With the winter season there is an increase in the amount of illness that we see in the classroom and in the health room. In order to try and decrease the spread of germs, the health room staff has been busy teaching the students proper hand washing, in addition to, teaching the students how to properly cover their mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze. If the students cough or sneeze into their sleeve instead of their hands, there will be less transfer of bacteria from students touching objects such as: pencils, books and door knobs, with dirty hands. Please try and reinforce this teaching at home as well.
Parents of kindergarten students, if your student is provisionally enrolled and still needs to complete their immunizations, please take care of this as soon as possible and send a copy of your child’s completed immunizations to the health room. Provisional enrollment will end on May 2, 2009.
