Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

December 21, 2005

A meeting of the District’s Safety Committee was held December 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the High School Teachers Lounge.  Those in attendance were:  William Cain, Aaron Barto, Judy Ripka, Patti Hillard, Georgi Johnson, Betsy Bennett, Terry Bandel & Pearl Hampton.

Aaron read November meeting minutes and no changes were made.  Minutes were approved as read.

Old Business:

  1. Students walking down the ramp to Bishop Street. A student slipped and fell under a bus the other week; thankfully the driver heard her scream and stopped before actually hitting her. We have stationed Administrators at the ramp both mornings and afternoons to make sure that students use the sidewalk. Aaron also purchased signs that are to be posted that states that all pedestrians use the sidewalk at all times.
  2. Custodians are now required to fill out a monthly safety checklist provided by Aaron.

New Business:

1.  Asbestos update – December 19 through January 6, 2006.  Asbestos floor tile and mastic have been removed from the band area at the high school, and the project is moving much faster than expected.

2. The Bellefonte Borough is to be notified about the ice and snow on sidewalks and intersections in the borough. Bellefonte Elementary had a fire drill today and students were slipping and falling at various areas off of school property.

3. Injury reviews: slips, trips, and falls.

4. Custodians will also be reminded to look for icicles and to remove them as they create a hazardous situation.

5. Bill Cain has requested a light about the Custodial door at the back of the High School as it is very dark and difficult for people to use the door access.

The next meeting is scheduled for January 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at a location to be determined. Meeting adjourned @ 3:00 p.m.
