Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

November 16, 2005

A meeting of the District’s Safety Committee was held October 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Middle School Conference room.  Those in attendance were:  William Cain, Aaron Barto, Judy Ripka, Patti Hillard, Georgi Johnson, Betsy Bennett, & Pearl Hampton.

Aaron read October meeting minutes and no changes were made.  Minutes were approved as read.

Old Business:

1. Bus duty liability – falls under the general liability of the district if a child gets hurt, unless the individual was proven to be negligent.

 Outstanding Work Place Safety Concerns: None

 Work Place Safety Concerns: None

 New Business:

1.  Asbestos update – December 19 through January 6 2006, asbestos floor tile and mastic will be removed from the band area at the high school, a negative containment will be built, and there is no danger to anyone in the facility. Need to send a letter home with the students.

2. Centre County Housing Authority and BASD signed an agreement for the use of the water retention pond, therefore, Aaron wrote a letter agreeing to provide manpower to clean-up the tree line and bushes between the High School and Beaver Farms.

3. Injury reviews, slips causing a broken wrist & back strains from improper lifting.

4. Pre-school at the high school needs to carpet in the room as a child crashed on the concrete floor and was injured.

5. Cafeteria slips/falls at Marion-Walker due to floor conditions in the cafeteria.

6. Saf-t-net Alertnow was purchased by the board for immediate alert to all students and staff, on any emergency or closing of the district or any unforeseen issue. More to follow after training.

The next meeting is scheduled for December 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at a location to be determined. Meeting adjourned @ 3:00 p.m.
