 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 8:30 AM

All parents and guardians of current 8th graders are invited to attend a promotion/awards ceremony to be held in the Bellefonte Area Middle School auditorium from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 10:30 a.m.  You will need a photo ID in order to sign into the school.  Following the ceremony, you are invited to briefly meet with your son or daughter in the gymnasium for pictures.  Students will attend a special lunch then leave the building for afternoon activities.  They will return to the building in time for 3:15 dismissal as usual.

This ceremony will celebrate the end of your son’s or daughter’s middle school experience and their transition to the high school.  All students will have their names called and will walk across the stage to receive a certificate; some students will also be receiving other awards and acknowledgements.

To encourage a respectful atmosphere and make this a more memorable occasion, we have instituted a specific dress code for the event.

 GIRLS:  Dress, skirt and dressy blouse, or dress pants and dressy blouse.  Dresses may have spaghetti straps, but no plunging necklines or backs.

 BOYS:  Dress pants or khakis, button-down shirt (long or short-sleeved), and Tie

 NO:  T-shirts, tank tops, jeans, shorts, flip-flops, or torn clothing for anyone.

 Please do NOT feel obligated to purchase new clothing for your child just for this event.  Most clothing worn for church or a nice restaurant would be appropriate.  We will also have a limited number of ties for the boys if they cannot provide one for this event.  If your child will have difficulty wearing an appropriate outfit because of financial concerns, please have your child talk with one of the eighth grade teachers, and we will make every effort to find something appropriate for him or her to wear.

The promotion/awards ceremony is expected to be formal and may not be appropriate for small children.  Parking will be very limited.  The front parking lot is for STAFF ONLY.  It is recommended that promotion ceremony visitors park on High Street or in the surrounding area and walk to the middle school.  If a member of your family has a health issue and cannot walk, we recommend the small parking lot next to the gym or dropping this person off at the building, then parking elsewhere. Space for seating is limited.  There will be time and opportunity for you to take pictures of your child after the ceremony.

Students must participate in any practices we have and demonstrate appropriate behavior during the practices in order to participate in the promotion ceremony on June 2nd.

Attention Parents: Student Council is in need of parents to chaperone the dances throughout the year and possibly some other events as well. Going forward, we need all chaperones and volunteers to have their criminal background and child abuse clearances on file. Past chaperones are welcomed back, we just need everyone to have their clearances to be around the students.

If you are interested in joining our parent group, and are willing to get your clearances, please email Liz Stone at lstone@basd.net. If you already have your clearances, please submit them to the main office and contact Liz with your interest.

Make sure that you indicate that you are a volunteer as there is no fee to obtain your clearances if you are a volunteer for the school district. If you are interested, please start getting your clearances ASAP so that you will have them in time for the first dance.

In the past and organizations would provide multiple copies of their flyers to be distributed to the buildings. Now, if your organization wishes to get information about your event or organization you just need to submit one copy and it will be displayed on the website.
